THE MONSTER COLLECTION
Pokes Out August 1st 10pm EST
For years, bags have sustained me creatively. They’ve been my canvas, a form I could pour myself into through pattern, color, shape, and experimentation. Whatever I was feeling, whatever I wanted to explore, I channeled it through the bag. That format gave me both structure and freedom. So, when I started designing more traditional glass objects, I was surprised by how vulnerable it made me feel. It sounds silly, but it really did take a kind of bravery to try something new. I don’t know if this work will resonate with anyone. It’s a whole new direction for me. But honestly, that doesn’t even matter, because the inspiration that’s been pouring out of me is something I haven’t felt in years. The moment I allowed myself to explore beyond bags, I felt lit up. My sketchbook is overflowing, and I can’t wait to show you my new collection.
As many of you know, I began making glass bags seriously after I created the celadon fade bag for Coperni and Doja Cat in 2022. The first piece I made after that was the spiky bag. I’ve been in love with the spiky motif ever since.
I love them because they’re playful and aggressive, rebellious and elegant. Like me :) They can act as feet, giving the object lift. They draw you in visually but repel you physically. That tension, that hesitation just before the touch, that’s the electric moment I want to highlight.
It took me a long time to understand this about myself, but I thrive with a limited amount of constraint. Without it, my work becomes too nebulous. Bags gave me that structure for years. For this new collection, my structure is the spike.
As my work evolves and shifts, I want to thank you for sticking with me. Your support means everything to me. Whether you've been here from the start or you just found me, I'm so grateful to share this collection with you.
